A casalasco in Vienna.

I concerti a quatro con i suoi ripieni, Fourth Opera by Andrea Zani from Casal Maggiore

Compagnia de Violini

Alessandro Ciccolini, conductor and concertante violin

At the height of his fame as a violinist and composer, Andrea Zani published in 1729 theSix chamber symphonies and as many church concerts for four instruments, second work, dedicating them to the Duke of Parma Antonio Farnese, probably trying, without success, to obtain a prestigious position at court. After several years, in 1733, we find the Casalasco virtuoso in Vienna following the invitation of the great Venetian composer Antonio Caldara, who had held the role of deputy court chapel master since 1717 and who had for years had various relationships with the land of Casalmaggiore , also having its own daughter, Maria Sofia, consecrated in the convent of S. Chiara. In the twelve violin concerts of the fourth work, given to the press in Vienna in 1735, Andrea Zani presents himself again to the European musical world as a mature and audacious composer, whose stylistic code is characterized by a marked virtuosity, in which the showy and innovative technical hyperbole always appears subject to a constant, expressive singability. The precious and elaborate violin concerts proposed in this evening will be interspersed with two short instrumental introductions to vocal works by Antonio Caldara, composed during the period in which Andrea Zani was in Vienna.
